About Cyprus

Cyprus may be a small country, but it's a large island - the third largest in the Mediterranean, situated at the crossroads of Europe, Asia and Africa. It's an island with a big heart, that gives its visitors a genuine welcome and treats them as friends. The legendary birthplace of Aphrodite, the Goddess of Love, Cyprus offers a magical blend of romance, history and relaxation in a superb setting - virtues that help make the island a perfect year-round destination.

Cool, pine-clad mountains are a complete scene-change after golden sun-kissed beaches: tranquil, timeless villages are in striking contrast to modern, cosmopolitan resorts, and there is a range of high quality hotels which meet the needs and expectations of even the most discerning visitor. For years Cyprus has been increasingly popular with British holidaymakers. After all, they couldn't feel more at home than on an island where English is the second language, driving is on the left and household names line the high street.

The Troodos Mountains, the impressive range that stretches across the centre of the island, offers a complete contrast to the seashore and coastal plains only a short drive away. With Mount Olympus soaring to 6000 feet, this is a paradise of pine woods, scenic walks, bird watching, waterfalls, mountain villages and, wonderful vistas

The ghost town of Famagusta is close by, you can see the urgency with which the residents left in 1974 as their possessions are still visible. You can also take a boat trip and see the once holiday destination completely deserted.

There is something for everyone within a 15 min drive. Ayia Napa has an abundance of bars, restaurants and beaches amongst which is the famous Nissi Beach; water sports are widely available throughout Ayia Napa and Protaras.

You can dance the night away among the many bars on Ayia Napa's Centre.

A large water park is located on the outskirts of Ayia Napa and is a great day out for families. A smaller water park is situated on the outskirts of Protaras.

Protaras is a lovely resort, quieter then Ayia Napa but just as sophisticated and cosmopolitan. Numerous bars and restaurants are located here and also the excellent Fig Tree Bay beach and again water sports are available.

The list of fabulous beaches on the East Coast of Cyprus is lengthy but here are a few worth a visit: Agia Thekia, Makronisos, Landa, Pernera, Katsarka and Pantahou.

The capital Nicosia, the last divided city in the world is also worth a visit.
